Review the following information that is related to CAS-MBES:
  • You can configure Microsoft 365 backup and restore jobs in a CASO-MBES environment. Backup and restore jobs for Microsoft 365 workloads can be created on the Central Administration Server (CAS) and delegated to run on Managed Backup Exec Servers (MBES).
  • When you create a Microsoft 365 workload backup job on CAS, you can choose the server where the job must run. During a restore, the restore job is delegated to the same preferred server that was chosen to run the backup job.
You can view the scheduled backup job on the Job Monitor tab of the CAS. When the job runs, it is delegated to the preferred server and you can monitor the job progress on the Job Monitor tab of the preferred server.
  • A backup set that is created by MBES can be browsed from CAS. The detailed item information is fetched from the MBES and displayed on CAS.
  • In a CASO environment, for the Forever Incremental, Consolidate Full, or Custom full backup jobs, you must only select a local deduplication storage device hosted on the server where you want to run the backup.
  • In a CASO environment, Microsoft 365 always uses distributed catalog mode irrespective of the selected mode during installation.
  • In a CASO environment, a backup set that is created by MBES and browsed from CAS does not display detailed item information and cannot be restored from CAS. You must run the restore job from the MBES where the backup job has run.
